Thread Count Is a Lie (Here's What Actually Matters)

Thread count explained

The Thread Count Myth

The bedding industry has trained us to believe that higher thread count = better sheets. The truth? Thread count above 400 is almost meaningless — and often a sign of inflated marketing.

What Actually Matters

Fibre quality. Long-staple cotton (fibres 34mm+) produces smoother, stronger, more durable fabric regardless of thread count. Short-staple cotton can be woven at 800 TC and still pill within months.

Weave type. Sateen weave gives a silky, luminous finish. Percale gives a crisp, matte feel. Neither is "better" — it's personal preference.

Finishing. How the fabric is finished (combed, mercerised, sanforised) matters more than the thread count printed on the packet.

Our cotton sheets are 300TC long-staple cotton sateen. We could inflate the count by using multi-ply threads, but we'd rather give you an honest number on a genuinely superior fabric.
