The linen: nearly identical fabric
If you are choosing linen, the fabric itself is not the deciding factor: both brands sell 100% French flax at 170gsm, pre-washed for softness.
Beddie’s Ivy linen also carries European Flax certification, which traces the fibre from Western European fields to the finished product. Bed Threads’ product pages state OEKO-TEX Standard 100, which Beddie’s linen also has.
The real differences are colour and price. Bed Threads offers about 17 plain linen colours plus two stripes. Beddie keeps its linen to five: Raspberry, Navy, Oatmeal and Apple, plus Natural Gingham. Beddie’s prints and florals are cotton only, not linen. At full price, a Queen linen fitted sheet is A$159.95 at Beddie and A$180 at Bed Threads; Queen quilt covers are A$250 at both.
The cotton: two very different sheets
This is where the brands genuinely differ. Beddie makes smooth sateen; Bed Threads makes crisp percale.
Beddie’s cotton is long-staple cotton in a 4:1 sateen weave at 450 thread count. More of each smooth thread sits on the surface, so it feels silky, drapes closely and has a soft lustre. Bed Threads’ cotton is GOTS-certified organic cotton in a percale (plain) weave at 200 thread count, which feels crisp, matte and cool, closer to a hotel sheet.
Neither is better in general. If you like the feel of a freshly ironed shirt, choose percale. If you want something smooth and soft against your skin, choose sateen. A Queen fitted sheet is A$89.95 at Beddie and A$100 at Bed Threads.
Prints and colour
Beddie is built around print. Bed Threads is built around colour.
Beddie’s cotton range includes original retro florals such as Flower Child, Petal, Bloom and Nanna’s Kiss, plus stripes and saturated colours like Mellow Yellow and Moss Green. When we checked, Bed Threads’ bedding was plain colours, two linen stripes and colour-blocked piped cotton covers, with no floral bedding. If you want a pattern on the bed, Beddie is the stronger choice. If you want to layer plain colours, Bed Threads has the bigger palette.
Fit and construction
Beddie’s quilt covers and fitted sheets have more built-in features, and they make a practical difference.
- Quilt cover closure
- Beddie uses a concealed YKK zip, so the cover can’t gape open. Internal corner ties hold the insert in place so it doesn’t bunch at the bottom. Bed Threads uses button closures.
- Fitted sheet depth
- Beddie’s Queen, King and Super King fitted sheets have 50cm walls. Bed Threads’ sizing guide lists 40cm at Queen and 50cm only at Super King. If your mattress has a pillow top or topper, measure its depth before you buy.
- Orientation
- Every Beddie fitted sheet has “long side” and “short side” labels sewn in, so you know which way it goes before you unfold it.
