Improving Sleep

Improving Sleep

Lack of sleep or problems sleeping, could be taking a toll on your mental and physical health.

Sleep-deprivation can be linked to everything from chronic health conditions to depleted libido and trouble in relationships.

However, don't despair! Our body has an incredible ability to bounce back, no matter how exhausted you may feel.

Prioritising your zzz's really makes a difference to your mindset.

Here are a few tips to help you get started:

Regular sleep

Did you know the perfect bedtime is 10pm?

This is because our body releases growth hormone between 11pm–2am.

This hormone plays a major role in rejuvenating our immune system and repairing the skin.

Reduce caffeine after 4 pm

How great is coffee or tea to boost us for the day! But definitely not so good for nighttime rest. Cutting out this stimulant after 4pm will definitely help your body and mind to fall into sleep.

Reduce smartphone usage before bedtime

Our brain naturally produces melatonin in response to darkness. It controls our sleep-wake rhythm and makes us feel drowsy in low-light environments. However, the light from your phone screen hampers melatonin production, by emitting large amounts of blue light.

Blue light tricks your body into thinking that it's daytime, so we will definitely benefit by putting down that device at least 30 minutes before bed.

Eating, exercise and worrying

Pay attention to what you eat and drink.

Don't go to bed hungry or on a full tummy...

Limit daytime naps.

Include physical activity in your daily routine.

Manage worries - easier said than done at times right?

Create a restful environment.

Keep your room cool, dark and quiet.

Optimise your bedroom environment, making sure it's a quiet, relaxing and enjoyable place.

Apart from the relaxing environment, bedding quality can also affect sleep.

New, good quality cotton bedding can enhance sleep and it’s recommended that you upgrade your bedding at least every 5–8 years.

Purchasing premium bedding such as Beddie's cotton collection, however, you not only invest in good sleep, but bedding that is heirloom quality, not needing to change so often and saving you money in the long run.

We are so excited to offer only the highest quality, premium woven pure cotton, with only the best finishings. Made to last and inspire.

Sleep Mantras

Too many browsers open in your head when you hop into bed?

Tired, but maddeningly wide awake as soon as you put your head on the pillow?

Don't pick up your phone!

Try a Sleep Mantra.

Use a mantra to clear your mind. Pick one from below that speaks to you and inspires calm.

Then repeat the words over and over in your head.

Focus as much of your attention on the phrase as you can.

The repetitive positive affirmations will have you winding down in no time.

Coupled with slowing your breathing, you can calm yourself into delicious drowsiness in no time.

After a while, this will become second nature when you get into bed and part of a healthy sleep routine.

I welcome sleep into my being

Nothing is left undone

I am becoming more relaxed with every breath

I make peace with time

I am calm and still
